Atlanta Golf Guide
Metro Atlanta offers a terrific environment for great golf and is home to many excellent (and challenging) golf courses. It's no secret that Atlantans love to golf — and the region's temperate climate allows golfers to hit the links year round.

- Bobby Jones Golf Course at Atlanta Memorial Park - Greens fees: $30.50-$40, including cart. 384 Woodward Way, 404-355-1009. - Brown's Mill Golf Course - Greens fees: $32-$37, including cart. Offers twilight hours for lower rates starting at 4 p.m. 2420 Browns Mill Road S.E., 404-366-3573. - Candler Park Golf Course - Use of this nine-hole course does not require a tee time. Greens fees: $7-$11. 585 Candler Park Dr. N.E., 404-371-1260. - Charlie Yates Golf Course - 18 hole par 58 award winning short course. Rees Jones designed in 1998. Greens fees: $26.00-$38.00 riding; $20.00-$28.00 walking; Active military greens fees: $20.00 riding; grass driving range $7.00-$10.00 per bucket, 10 Lakeside Village, Atlanta, 404-373-4655, www.charlieyatesgolfcourse.com - Cross Creek Gold Club - 18 hole par-3 course. Greens fees: $13-$22; walking course. 1221 Cross Creek Parkway N.E., 404-352-5612. - North Fulton Golf Course at Chastain Park - This is the most popular of the city's four 18-hole courses. Greens fees: $30.50-$37.50, including cart. 216 W. Wieuca Road N.W., 404-255-0723. - Stone Mountain Golf Club - The original par-70 Stonemont course, designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1969, has been enhanced by the addition of the John LaFoy Lakemont course. Offers twilight hours for lower rates starting at 4 p.m. 2706 Bouldercrest Rd., 404-241-7671. - Tup Holmes Golf Course - Greens fees: $30-$39, including cart. 300 Wilson Drive S.W. (at Delowe Drive), 404-753-6158. Other Georgia Golf Courses - Barnsley Gardens Resort - The par-72 "General" is ranked among the top 20 courses in Georgia by Golf Digest. Greens fees: $100-$115, including cart. 597 Barnsley Gardens Road, Adairsville (about 60 miles north of downtown Atlanta), 770-773-2555, www.barnsleyresort.com - Callaway Gardens - Callaway Gardens has two courses, which are Mountain View and the Lake View. Greens fees: $35-$100, including cart. Pine Mountain, 706-663-2281, www.callawaygardens.com - Chateau Elan - The 18-hole Chateau and Woodlands courses were rated "Excellent" by ESPN and Zagat Survey 2004. The practice facility is home to The Golf Academy at Chateau Elan. Greens fees: $65-$80, including cart. They also have a Par 3, 9-hole that is a walking course next to the Inn. 1-800-233-WINE (9463), www.chateauelanatlanta.com - The Cloister at Sea Island - Sea Island was ranked "The Best Golf Resort in the US" in 2003 by the Robb Report. Sea Island offers three 18-hole golf courses that were designed by some of the best architects in the business. Greens fees: $160-$210, including cart. Sea Island, 1-800-SEA-ISLAND, www.cloister.com - Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee - Greens fees: $111-$150. 126 Cuscowilla Drive, Eatonton, 1-800-458-5351, www.cuscowilla.com - King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort - The Hampton Club 18-hole course is also historical since it was once the site of Hampton Plantation, an antebellum platation during 18th century. Greens fees: $85, includes cart. St. Simons Island, 912-634-0255, www.kingandprince.com & www.hamptonclub.com - Renaissance PineIsle Resort and Golf Club - PineIsle Resort has a 18-hole course designed by Gary Player. Hole No. 5 is located on the lake. Greens fees: $29-$64. 9000 Holiday Road, Lake Lanier Islands, 770-945-8921, www.pineisle.com - Reynolds Plantation - Reynolds Plantation has plans to open a 6th golf course, which is scheduled for late 2006 or early 2007.
